Why a verified backup comes before BMW coding
What a useful coding backup contains and why verification matters.
A backup is part of the change
Good practice treats recovery preparation as the first step, not an optional extra. Save the vehicle order and readable coding data, record software context, and verify that the files are non-empty and internally consistent.
A backup cannot guarantee recovery from every interruption or hardware fault. It does provide a known reference and makes disciplined rollback possible where the platform permits it.
Keep the evidence
Label backups by VIN and timestamp, keep an untouched copy, and document each intended change. Avoid mixing files from different vehicles or integration levels.
CodexDrive uses a backup-first workflow and presents warnings before writes; the operator remains responsible for power, connection quality and the suitability of the requested change.
